A comparative visualization of urban bike mobility

Based on GPS data from bike sharing programs in New York City, Berlin and London, the researchers from the Urban Complexity Lab in Potsdam, Germany visualized bike journeys on three levels - by station, by city grid and a multiple view focusing on three stations. The exhibit also created a dashboard where information like number of stations can be compared among the three cities. The visualization was meant to encourage critical analysis for how to improve the bike sharing program - like showing darkened areas where bikes journeys do not take place, where a new road or station could be installed to improve transit.
