Demolition of buildings in Mikkeli
Raimo Lilja and trainee Juha Kärkkäinen (MikseiMikkeli Ltd) conducted a study in autumn 2020: Construction and demolition waste in the Mikkeli and its waste management. The study examined the permitting practice, the amount of waste generated, the waste costs and the development opportunities of the demolition projects carried out in the city area. The study was carried out in co-operation with city authorities, building control, Mikkeli region's environmental services and waste management company Metsäsairila Ltd.
Study accounted demolition permits from period: 2018-July 2020. There were 32 large demolition sites (>250 m2) and their total floor area was 48,277 m2. There were 107 small demolition sites (<250 m2). Their total announced floor area was 6197 m2.
